Ministry Idea: Non-Peak Season Can Drive

Thanksgiving and Christmas

are the seasons where we all get in the spirit of helping and giving and one of many things youth groups do is do can drives.  While I am not saying this is a bad idea, what I am saying is that there are 10 other months of the year where they need food also.

Spring and Summer

are two seasons where food banks often languish for food to give out.  Often they need to rely on donations and people to go and buy food so that others may eat.  However, your youth group can help this out in a major way!

Hold an off season Can Drive.

My youth just did this, we made it part of a bigger event, but essentially we broke the teens into several teams and we all went out into the community and had a contest to see how many cans we could get (The winners got a prize).  In the end, about 13 teens and 3 leaders collected over 350 cans for a local foodbank!!!

Make service fun, get out there and “Just Do It…”

If you were wondering, my team won… 🙂
