My Blogging Hiatus

Some of you may have noticed that I haven’t blogged in awhile. There are several reasons for this and hope to continue blogging on a more consistent basis now. While blogging is an important activity of mine, and I wish to continue reaching out on this blog into the Shadows of Youth Ministry, I needed to reset some other priorities in my life to make this happen.

Every time I do this (I need to, and so do you if your honest with yourself), it reminds me of Andy Stanley’s Book, What Matters Most. I’ve found some of my priorities were out of whack and below I’m going to briefly share with you what they are and how I am working on them.

1) Personal Goals

I set out about 3 months ago on losing weight. Using Loseit.com, and its apps on my iphone in conjunction with my Atkins (low-carb) diet, I’ve been able to attack my weight problem. So far, I’m happy with the progress I’ve made. This is my current weight loss (30 lbs) and I’m going strong hitting the gym 3-5 times a week, doing cycling and boot camp courses.

2) Work Goals

I’ve been working a difficult job for Hospice (Inpatient Care) and that job left me daily feeling zapped physically, emotionally and spiritually, while this was taking all my energy I wasn’t able to pursue writing and other goals.

I’ve also been focusing more on my job hunt, refining my resume and cover letter so they are ready to go when the right job comes along. Prospects in the northeast are slow and coming, but being ready for the right one will help when the time comes. My next project in this area will be creating a one page document outlining the benefits of social work practice and education in church ministry. (I think the overlap is immeasurable).

3) Writing Goals

I’ve been dabbling in some sermon prep and book proposals again. I’m almost to the outline phase of both. Sermons I need to work on for any eventual job interviews and book proposals are the only way to get published by a reputable company. Other writing goals for the next few months include:

  • Making a book proposal to Group.
  • Researching/Journal Article on Adjustment disorder and links to spirituality in high school and college
  • Pediatric Pall. Care Article for NACSW journal
  • Ministry perspectives on Ped pall care for JYM.
