Youth Worker Devotions: Minimized not Emasculated

I’m pretty sure not a week has passed so far this year without me knowing of (personally), hearing of (through friends) or communicating with (on the net)a Youth Pastor who has been let go of his church.  Something tells me that morale in the ranks of youth workers is rather low.   I want to start spending time building youth workers up on the weekends offering devotional insights and thoughts specifically for you, my peers, comrades, brothers and sisters in the trenches.

Hebrews 12:1-3
Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, despising the shame and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

2 Corinthians 4:6-17
For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shonein our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
BUT we have this treasure in earthen vessles, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves;

We Are:

  • Afflicted in Every Way,
    • But not Crushed;
  • Perplexed
    • But not Despairing,
  • Persecuted,
    • but not forsaken;
  • Struck down,
    • but not destroyed
Always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.  For we who live are constantly being delievered over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh…

THEREFORE we do not lose heart, but through our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day.

    As a guy who studied to become a youth pastor and has been struggling to find work (usually losing out to someone without a degree but with a guitar) it's been a good reminder, look forward to more, thank you.

  2. Matt Murphy says:

    Thanks Chris. Will make this a weekly habit, either posted for Sunday or Monday…
